In a message to the actor, Park Ji-min, 27, known mononymously as Jimin, congratulated Ryan, 42, on his ‘big release,’ and added that he was excited to see Barbie himself.

This is a result of Ryan following through on his promise made before the film’s release to donate the instrument to the K-pop star who had worn one of the Ken’s outfits in an old music video for Permission To Dance.

Jimin said on Instagram: ‘Hi Ryan and hi Ken, it’s Jimin. Congrats on your big release. My fans are excited to see your video, so thank you so much.

‘I could see that you look great in my outfit. Thank you for this guitar. I really love it and I look forward to watching Barbie. Go, Barbie!’

He said, in an Instagram post from the film’s profile: ‘I noticed that your Permission To Dance outfit is the same as my Ken outfit in the upcoming movie.’

The outfit in question was worn by Ken after he and Barbie travelled to the real world and realised they could do with some more understated outfits.

‘I have to give it to you — you wore it first,’ Ryan added. ‘You definitely wore it best, and there’s an unspoken Ken code that if you bite another Ken’s style, you have to give them your most prized possession.’

The guitar is Ken’s black acoustic instrument seen as the enlivened doll performs a cover of Matchbox Twenty’s song Push in the movie, sung by Ryan himself.

Jimin accepted the donation gladly and thanked the La La Land star in a video of his own.

Far from being upset that Ken had taken his style, Jimin captioned the video by saying ‘thanks for having my outfit in #BarbieTheMovie! You rocked it.’

He certainly did – as the movie has been a global hit, smashing this year’s record for a film’s debut.
