RM (BTS) Appointed as Public Relations Ambassador for the Korean Ministry of Defense’s MIA Recovery and Identification Team

In an exciting development, RM, a member of the renowned South Korean boy band BTS, has been officially appointed as the Public Relations Ambassador for the Ministry of Defense’s MIA Recovery and Identification Team. This announcement was made by BIGHIT MUSIC on June 1st.

The MIA Recovery and Identification Team, under the Ministry of Defense, is responsible for excavating the remains of former soldiers who fought during the Korean War (1950-1953) and returning them to their families. Their mission extends to the recovery of the remains of Korean and United Nations soldiers, as well as facilitating the repatriation or temporary custody of the remains of Chinese and North Korean soldiers for humanitarian reasons.

As the newly appointed Public Relations Ambassador, RM will actively participate in various promotional activities to raise awareness about the MIA Recovery and Identification Team’s important work.

RM now joins the ranks of esteemed individuals such as Professor Seo Kyung Deok and veteran MC Song Hae as the third Public Relations Ambassador for this significant initiative.

RM, a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and music producer, rose to prominence as the leader of BTS when the group debuted in June 2013. He released his first solo mixtape, “RM,” in 2015, followed by his second mixtape, “Mono,” in 2018. “Mono” achieved a remarkable feat, reaching number 26 on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart, making it the highest-charting album by a Korean solo artist at the time.

Recently, RM released his solo album titled “Indigo,” which propelled him to become the first Korean solo artist in history to enter the top 3 of the Billboard 200 chart. This album marked his triumphant return with a distinctive musical endeavor, following the release of “Mono” in 2018.

While RM had initially planned to enlist in the military alongside J-Hope, the project had to be postponed. In his own words, RM explained, “I actually planned to enlist around the same time as J-Hope. However, I had to delay my enlistment due to my ongoing project. I think I will fulfill my military duty after completing this project.”

Currently, two members of BTS, Jin and J-Hope, are fulfilling their mandatory military service. The group aspires to continue their activities as a complete unit until 2025.

RM’s appointment as the Public Relations Ambassador for the MIA Recovery and Identification Team not only showcases his dedication to serving his country but also highlights the team’s crucial mission of honoring and remembering the sacrifices made by soldiers during the Korean War.
