When Rosie, a Golden Retriever mix, arrived at Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue, abandoned and very pregnant, shelter managers Katie and John Black immediately began caring for the abandoned and homeless dog.
The staff had handled their fair share of pregnant dogs in the past, but when Rosie gave birth, it became clear that she was going to be a special case, as Rosie’s 4 healthy puppies looked nothing like her.
Unlike mom Rosie, who was covered in gold, the puppies had many spots. The black and brown markings on her white fur made her look eerily like a group of small baby cows! Fittingly, they were given the bovine names of Daisy, Clarabelle, Betsy and Moo.
Crossbreeding often leads to striking differences in puppies’ characteristics, but in Rosie’s case, the complete lack of similarity was notable. But that didn’t affect Rosie’s love for her sweet pups in the slightest!
Today, Rosie and all of her babies have been adopted into loving homes.
We are so grateful to Katie and John for their sincere efforts in caring for the litter and finding them the best homes!
